Who is your syllabus written for? Exploring the learner-centred syllabus
Synopsis
Monday, August 31st, 11:00am-12:00pmCourse Overview
A weekly learning schedule or syllabus is intended to guide students through a course, but it’s often written for administrative purposes or to authoritatively “set the tone” for the small minority of students who may not abide by our course expectations. As a result, it can feel overly formal, inaccessible, or disconnected from the instructor’s actual teaching approach, leading students to disengage from it. What if you could create a syllabus that students are more likely to read, engage with, and feel supported by throughout the semester?
A learner-centred syllabus re-positions the document as a tool for building trust, clarity, and connection, rather than just enforcing rules. In this 60-minute in-person session, you will explore how to shift the format, tone, and policies in your syllabus through critical reflection and AI-enabled analysis.
