Synopsis
This is a self-paced micro-course exploring accessibility barriers in workplace communications.Course Overview
Invisible barriers exist throughout our workplace, though typically built unintentionally, the impact of these obstacles can lead to feelings of exclusion and a less than ideal experience for some of our colleagues. Participants in this course will learn the practical skills for locating, identifying, and repairing potential accessibility barriers in workplace communications. Through videos, discussions, various authoring tool resources, and guided tutorials, participants will reflect upon the importance of ensuring accessibility and demonstrate the use of built-in accessibility tools.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course you will:- Identify provincial legislation and college policies that relate to accessibility;
- Participate in the end-user experience that inaccessible documents create for people attempting to read them using assistive technologies;
- Discuss common accessibility barriers that are present in the workplace;
- Explain your role in ensuring that office communiques are accessible;
- Identify built-in accessibility tools in common office communique creation and editing software;
- Locate accessibility issues in a document using built-in accessibility tools; and
- Correct accessibility barriers in an inaccessible document.
